### Should I choose a 2-stroke or a 4-stroke outboard?

Four-stroke outboards are quieter, cleaner running and more fuel-efficient, which suits leisure boats, tourism and long days on the water. Two-stroke outboards are lighter and simpler, with strong power for their weight, and have long been a favourite of fishing and commercial boat operators.

### What horsepower outboard do I need?

It depends on your boat’s size, weight, load and use. As a general guide, motors under 15 hp suit dinghies, tenders and small fishing craft; 15–40 hp suits most fishing boats, work boats and small runabouts; and 50 hp and above suits larger leisure, tour and heavier work boats. Always stay within your boat’s maximum rated horsepower.
